My Story

petrified forest national park

Hi! I’m Brittany and I have been breeding and training dogs my entire life. I grew up in Syracuse, New York, where my mom bred and trained Brittany Spaniels as hunting dogs. Fun fact – I’m pretty sure I was named after the breed, though my mom denies it 😂 So I didn’t have much of a choice when it came to being a crazy dog lady!

When I was 10, we got into showing dogs in AKC confirmation shows. Our first show dog was a Bernese Mountain Dog. My mom quickly realized, though, that a berner is a BIG dog for a little 10 year old to be trotting around a show ring. A friend of hers who bred berners, also bred Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, so we got one of those as well. We started breeding and showing both breeds. My cavalier, Trixi, and I competed in confirmation shows and agility trials. She was such a good agility dog! We did a lot of trials and got to the highest level of competition.

When I was 13, my mom got me my first Australian Shepherd, Jax. Jax was a 3 year old, retired champion show dog and he was to be my new Junior Handling show dog. She really wanted him to be a Christmas present. She had a friend watching him for the couple days before Christmas, but he was really anxious so she brought him home early. Jax and I bonded right away. Mom always said if he was a 16 year old boy, she would be real worried about how much he loved me 🤣

Fast forward a few years. I am 18 and both Jax and Trixi are starting to get old. My mom wakes me up one day with an Aussie puppy in her arms. I said, “Mom, you got another dog?” She goes, “Yes, but this one is for you!” Well, that changes everything! Okay, give her to me!

And that was really the catalyst in my journey. That little Aussie puppy, I named her RayRay, changed my whole life. I took her everywhere with me. If friends invited me out somewhere, I would ask if Ray could come. If they said no, then I didn’t go. We went to house parties, music festivals, backyard gatherings, and everywhere in between. People knew my dog better than they knew me! She was my side-kick, my protector, my best friend. She never left my side. Aussies need a job and her job was me. I never had to leash her, never had to worry about her running off. If we walked by a dog that was barking or lunging at us, she wouldn’t react. We just kept on walking. I’ll say it a million times, she was the BEST dog. I knew early on that I needed to keep her spirit alive with me forever.

Ray came from a long line of champion show Aussies and she was a show dog herself. We bred her a few times and the last time, I kept a puppy. A little blue merle girl named Sky. Sky and Ray 🥰. We were a happy little family. Sky was (and still is) a firecracker. Though she’s 11 now so she has slowed down just a tiny bit. She is the most athletic dog I’ve ever had. A supernatural, master ball catcher. When Sky was a little over a year old, we moved from NY to Colorado. That’s where our big adventure began, and continues to this day.

Hiking in Colorado is nothing like hiking in NY. Colorado really showed me just how made for adventure these dogs are. I swear the dogs could hike up and down a mountain 10 times before I could get up it once! Their stamina and agility is just unmatched. The girls and I have explored most of this Western half of the US since we moved. In 2018, we went on a month long roadtrip with a friend and her dog – Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona, Southern California, Nevada, and back. Hiking and camping and exploring nature the whole way. RayRay has even flown on a plane with me a few times!

In 2021, I bred Sky and whelped my first litter without my mom. We had 4 beautiful, healthy puppies. The goal was always to keep Ray’s line going. There was only one girl so she was the chosen one to continue the legacy. My partner’s mom kept the girl, named Harmony, with the agreement that I would breed her when the time came.

That time is finally here! We welcomed Harmony’s litter of 9 (yes, NINE) puppies into the world on December 10, 2025.

Ray passed in February 2024. She was 15 but she didn’t look a day over 9. There will never be another dog like her, but she lives on in all her puppies and their puppies, and so on. So in a way, I get to keep a piece of her forever.

Now that you’re all caught up on how we started, read on to learn my breeding philosophy and check out Harmony’s litter!
I’m so glad you’re here 😊
