My Breeding Philosophy

Understanding the Australian Shepherd

The Australian Shepherd is a highly energetic, very intelligent, hard-working breed that was bred to herd livestock. They have incredible stamina, as they were bred to be in the fields for hours every day. They do not make great pets for everyone. While they are extremely loyal and easy to train, they need a lot of exercise and mental stimulation. They will not be good pets for people who live in apartments, or people who work long hours. They need a job to do and if they aren’t given one, they will find one that will most likely be destructive! Too many Aussies end up in shelters because people didn’t do their research before getting a “cute puppy”.

It is very important to me to place puppies with people who understand the breed, are prepared, and have the time and energy it takes to own one these dogs.

Upholding the breed standard

As a breeder, my main goal is to improve the breed by prioritizing health, temperament, characteristics, appearance, and responsible placement. I have a deep understanding of the breed’s history, purpose, physical characteristics, and common health concerns.

*With that being said, I do not intend to dock tails. I understand that this is part of the breed standard, however these puppies will not be show dogs and therefore I see it as unneccessary.

Socialization starts on day 1

Socialization is so important for the development of confident, well-adjusted puppies. My puppies are gently handled from birth and are exposed to many different things and people while they are with me. Starting on day 3, we begin Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS) exercises. ENS stimulates the nervous system, improves the stress response, and builds a stronger, more adaptable dog.
